The VST folding
front sight and gas block is an all-steel, flip-up design,
with a spring loaded dual-plunger detent. There is no lock.
If hit, the sight will fold down, rather than damage a
locking mechanism. It incorporates a QD sling swivel cup
mount, and uses an AK front sight post.
Despite the VST-1's solid construction, it only weighs about
a half of an ounce more than a standard A2 front sight
tower. The VST-1 is currently available in cross-bolt clamp
design (VST-1C) and a taper pin retained version is
currently being tested.
Background and Additional Information:
One of the newest
products from Vltor is really not that new. Vltor front man,
Eric Kincel
designed this gas block at the request of a small military
unit back in 1995, when he was with the now defunct Unitech
(the gun division of knife makers Microtech). Unitech and
Knights Armament Corp were embroiled in legal matters at
that time, and eventually KAC acquired all the designs and
tooling to make the sight... which eventually evolved into the
current KAC product. A quick look at other front sight
blocks on the market shows that other manufacturers have
been inspired by the Unitech design. Due to ongoing request
over the last 10 years, Eric has revived his Unitech design,
and updated it for Vltor.
This

Vltor one.
The
VST-1 is precision machined from tool grade steel with a
stainless steel sling swivel insert; the VST-1 is rock
solid. The clamping system has been carefully designed to
provide an unparalleled hold; during
testing, the VST-1 withstood over 100 ft/lbs of
rotational torque!

The
VST-1 is designed so that the clamp cross-bolts can be
staked to prevent loosening.

The installation of the VST should be performed by a
qualified gunsmith and/or certified armorer.
Each kit contains the front sight assembly
and sight adjustment tool.
